VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese chess players ended their competition at the Malaysian Chess Festival 2015. Malaysia with one gold, three silver, and one bronze medal, of which Nguyen Van Huy (Hanoi) won the gold for rapid chess event.

Nearly 160 chess players from 18 countries including Russia, the US, Uzbekistan, China, India, Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Sri Lanka, UAE, Japan, New Zealand, Hungary, Germany, and host Malaysia participated in the competition.

Players were divided into three groups with the open events for under 55 years old, attracted the largest number of players with 141. In addition, there are two others for the A55 age group (from 55-64 years old) and A65 group (from 65 and older). They competed in standard chess, rapid chess and blitz chess.

In the open events, Vietnam had four representatives - Le Tuan Minh, Nguyen Van Huy, Tran Minh Thang, and Nguyen Duc Hoa. All three leading positions in the rapid chess championship belonged to Vietnam’s players with Nguyen Van Huy ranked first, followed by Le Tuan Minh and Nguyen Duc Hoa.

In the blitz chess event, Nguyen Van Huy won the silver medal with 7.5 points after nine rounds, after Indonesian Sean Cuhendi (8 points). Nguyen Duc Hoa Ky ranked fourth with 7 points.

In the standard chess, Hanoian Le Tuan Minh earned 7 points after nine games and was listed in the leading group. However, due to the sub-index, Minh only ranked No. 5. The championship title belonged to Vakhidov Jahongir (Uzbekistan) with also 7 points.

Vietnam’s Luu Duc Hai also won the silver medal in the A65 age group.
