VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese cueist Nguyen Quoc Nguyen won a bronze medal at the 2014 Guri Three-Cushion World Cup which concluded in South Korea on Sunday.

The world No 32 lost to world No 1 Frederic Caudron of Belgium in the semi-finals 30-40.

Nguyen surprised fans after beating world No 8 Kim Kyung Roul of the host nation 40-38 in the last eight and overcoming his compatriot world No 9 Dong Koong Kang 40-32 in the quarter-final round.

In the final, Eddy Merckx of Belgium defeated his teammate Caudron to take the title.

Three other Vietnamese cueists have also triumphed at the event in South Korea. Tran Chi Thanh won a silver medal at the Three-Cushion World Cup in Seoul in 2007, while Ma Xuan Cuong and Ngo Dinh Nai won bronzes in Suwon in 2011 and Guri in 2013.
