VietNamNet Bridge – Border guards of the central coastal city of Nha Trang on October 30 saved a Hong Kong yacht, which was on the way to Malaysia to participate in a yacht race.
The yacht, named Koull Baby, departed Hong Kong on October 25 to Port Klang in Malaysia to join the Malaysia-Thailand yacht race on November 29.
Two days later, while the yacht was in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands, its electric system failed. As a result, the communication network didn’t work.
The captain shot flares eight times but the ship didn’t receive any assistance. The ship, guided by winds, floated to Vietnam’s Nha Trang port.
At 6am, October 30, from the Hon Mun observatory station, Nha Trang border guards saw the SOS signals from the Hong Kong yacht.
They asked a tourist ship to take the yacht to the shore.
Three members in the yacht include Australian captain Ryan Binedell, 21, and two Filipino sailor - Samuel Amandeo and Emanuel Amandeo, 27.
After the yacht was repaired, they left Nha Trang for Malaysia on November 3.
