VietNamNet Bridge – More than 1,000 milky flowers trees in the coastal city of Nha Trang will be chopped down in September, to be replaced by flamboyant, a local official said.

Nguyen Khac Thinh, vice chief of the Nha Trang Urban Management Department, said that the local authorities had received a lot of complaints about the very strong fragrance of milky flowers. People said they could not sustain the fragrance and it harmed their health.
The local government, therefore, decided to replace milky flower trees by flamboyant trees. The project will be implemented in early September, Thinh said.
In 2011, citizens of Tra Vinh city in southern Vietnam asked the local administration to cut down milky flower trees for its strong fragrance. They called the tree “living environment polluting tree.”
In 2005, people in the northern city of Lang Son raised the similar complaint.
Meanwhile,the milky flower tree is a “symbol” of Hanoi. The fragrance of this flower has been mentioned in many songs and poems about Hanoi.
