Nhi walked away from the fight with a purse of $17,051.

Two women’s fights and six men’s fights were held on the first day.

In the men’s bouts, Pham Duc Doan and Nguyen Van Hai beat strong opponents.

Another match-up that gained huge attention was between martial artist Truong Dinh Hoang and Australian boxer Mateo Tapia, which Tapia won on a judges’ decision.

Hoang was angry with the result, saying if it had been a normal fight, there would be nothing to be angry about, but “this is about my dignity,” he said.

Vietnamese boxers won five of their eight fights, showing positive signs for Vietnamese boxing.

The tournament is being co-organised by the Viet Nam Sports Platform and the Viet Nam Boxing Federation.
