The information was shared by Nike Vietnam Co., Ltd at a meeting between officials of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and leading American businesses in Vietnam on March 8.

Previously, Nike and many businesses were greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that broke out in many southern provinces and cities.

Affirming the importance of economic cooperation with US businesses, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said the ministry will ensure the supply of raw materials, and meet the needs of recovery and development of production and business, focusing on removing difficulties and obstacles for important industrial projects.

The ministry also provides maximum support to factories and restores production to create supply chains and maintain orders between Vietnam and businesses from other countries, including the US.

“In the coming time, we will focus on implementing large public investment projects, especially projects in energy, infrastructure, and trade, in order to boost the economy's demand for consumption and trade as well as develop markets for a number of key manufacturing industries such as steel, mechanics, building materials, and automobiles," said Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai.

Mr. Ted Osius, former US Ambassador to Vietnam, and President and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), said that as Vietnam implements a policy of safe and flexible adaptation in the prevention of Covid-19 and product development, USABC will work closely to support businesses to quickly resume normal activities.

“The American business community in Vietnam is the companion and cooperation partner with the Government, ministries, localities and Vietnamese businesses in implementing solutions to respond to and recover the post-pandemic economy,” said Osius.

USABC is assisting Vietnamese authorities in the implementation of free trade agreements to which Vietnam has joined, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

A number of leading US corporations and businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam said they are planning to expand investment, production and business in 2022.

A representative of Ford Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that this company is expected to increase production capacity and recruit more workers this year. Currently, the company is applying for a license to be able to deploy a completely new business form in the automotive field, which is an e-commerce site to maximize support of consumers.

Affirming that Vietnam is an important market, a representative of ExxonMobil Group in the Asia-Pacific region said that the company is currently implementing a number of gas-electricity projects in Vietnam. ExxonMobil is also developing and applying advanced technologies and solutions to support the clean energy transition in Vietnam, contributing to the implementation of COP26 commitments.

In addition, representatives of US businesses proposed a number of issues related to the implementation of power projects, the development of renewable energy, e-commerce, certification of origin of goods, and goods clearance.
