The Quang Tri Border Guard Department announced on April 2 that five men were arrested at 5.30 pm on March 30 while transporting drugs on National Highway 9 running through Huong Hoa District. The drugs which weighed 100 kilos were seized along with a Toyota car with Lao registration.
The five men arrested were aged between 25 and 38 years old. Following further investigations into the case, Quang Tri authorities arrested four other Lao women hiding in the district, aged between 23 and 27.
The suspects from Pakading District in the Lao province of Bolikhamsai admitted that a man in Vientiane had hired them to transport 100 packets of drugs from Laos to Ha Tinh. They then would deliver them to a Vietnamese man in Quang Tri. The group would be paid approximately USD1,400 for the job.
Quang Tri Customs Department said this was the largest drug bust ever seen in the area.
