According to the list recently released by Elsevier, compiled by a research group from Stanford University, the rankings are based on data from the Scopus database. The list identifies the most influential scientists in the world, judged by their research impact and citation counts.

Among Vietnamese scientists currently working in Vietnam, nine made it into the top 10,000 in 2024, while 60 were listed among the top 100,000 most cited researchers globally. This marks a significant increase from 2023, with 13 more Vietnamese scientists added to the list.

The nine Vietnamese scientists in the top 10,000 for 2024 include:

- Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc and Associate Professor Le Hoang Son from Vietnam National University, Hanoi

- Professor Tran Xuan Bach from Hanoi Medical University

- Professor Vo Xuan Vinh and Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City

- Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai and Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc from Duy Tan University

- Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan from Dong A University

- Dr. Pham Thai Binh from the University of Transport and Communications

Some of these scientists, such as Associate Professor Le Hoang Son and Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc, have consistently appeared on the list for multiple years.

The ranking evaluates the scientists based on various factors, including the number of citations (excluding self-citations), the Hirsch h-index, the Schreiber hm-index, and the number of citations for papers where they were either the sole author, the first author, or the corresponding or last author.

Scientists are categorized into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields, demonstrating the broad scope of expertise included in the evaluation.
