The organisation that decides the Nobel Prize for Literature has said it will not announce an award this year, after it was engulfed in a scandal over sexual assault allegations.

Canadian author Alice Ann Munro has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Winner of the 2009 Man Booker International Prize for her lifetime body of work, she is also a three-time winner of Canada’s Governor General’s Award for fiction.

With just hours to go before the announcement of this year's winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, most bets were still on Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami.
