Two South Korean artists make musical instruments from recycled objects at ZeroStation.

During the three-week project, they will produce multifunctional musical instruments from recycled items like sculptural artworks reflecting the city.

For example, in the morning from now until September 22, the six artists of Noridan will survey the city to collect thoughts, images and emotions as they interact with the city. During this journey, the artists themselves become open radars, activating broadcasts/ dialogues to the city.

During the journey, the half dozen will collect discarded objects and all the found objects during each morning’s wanders then will be used as material for the multifunctional recycled musical instrument, carrying the emotions, feelings and ideas of the Noridan wanders around Saigon.

In the afternoons from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the artists will turn collected materials into a musical instrument that the public can come to witness and exchange with them.

The process of working together in this open workshop is also the metaphor for a multidirectional dialogue where no-one imposes his/her ideas on another, and anybody can lead the dialogue to any possible direction – so that it is also a metaphor for the essence of the living-with-the-other, not in terms of political correctness, but in terms of being ready to face with the otherness/differences and in this facing to open new and creative communication spaces.

Moreover, Noridan will hold daily improvised performances (shortest time five minutes) every afternoon for the public. These performances will include ‘interacting and intervening the surround milieu’ and ‘the daily life of the neighbors’ by using every tool, equipment, material and means available.

Their 21 interventions will interrupt the rhythm of everyday life, and at the same time everyday life will become a source of material, which is used to make art.

ZeroStation is located at 228 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 3.
