VietNamNet Bridge – In the early morning of October 6, the Central Meteorological Forecast Center forecasted that the storm No. 7 (Gaemi) would hit the coast of Binh Dinh – Phu Yen provinces, in central Vietnam, at 4pm today.
The center also said that a cold air is flowing to the north, making the weather in the northern region to turn cold tonight (October 6).
Weather experts said that at 4am this morning (6/10), the storm was off the coast of Quang Ngai, Phu Yen provinces about 340 km to the east. The strongest winds near the eye of the storm were up to level 8 (ie from 62 to 74 km per hour).
In the next 12 hours, the storm will move in the direction between the West and Southwest, at the speed of about 20 km per hour.
At this rate, at 4 pm today (6/10), the eye of the storm will be on the waters of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces. The strongest winds near the center of the storm will be up to level 8.
In the next 12 to 24 hours, the storm will move mainly to the west, at the speed of about 15 - 20 km per hour. It will enter the mainland and weaken into a tropical depression, which continue moving inland and weaken into a low pressure area.
By 4 pm tomorrow (October 7), the low pressure area will be 13.6 degrees north latitude; 107.6 east longitude, on the border of Vietnam and Cambodia. The strongest winds in the center of the low pressure will drop to below level 6 (ie, less than 39 km per hour).
Due to the impact of the storm, the waters between the Paracels and the Spratlys Islands will have strong winds at level 6, level 7, and level 8 near the center of the storm. In the waters from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa provinces (including Ly Son island district,) winds will become stronger to reach level 6, level 7, and level 8, 9 near the center of the storm.
From the afternoon and the night of October 6, in the provinces from Quang Nam to Phu Yen, winds will gradually pack up to level 6, and level 8 near the center of the storm. The provinces in the Central Highlands will have strong winds of level 5, level 6. The provinces from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa will have heavy rain.
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and the National Committee for Search and Rescue sent a delegation to the central region to join local governments to cope with typhoon Gaemi.
The provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Khanh Hoa have banned boats from going to the sea.
In Quang Ngai province, by 8pm of October 5, 212 households in areas with high risk of landslides were removed. The province is also ready to evacuate 13,600 other households under a flood and storm control plan.
By 11.30pm of October 5, Phu Yen province removed 21 households in danger of being affected by tides in Xuan Hai commune; some other communes evacuated all of the elderly and children. The evacuation in dangerous areas finished at 2pm of October 6.
By 6am this morning, 58,530 ships/283.478 people working at sea were informed of the location and direction of the storm.
Currently all reservoir are still safe.
