Dickson was born in 1956 in Northern Ireland, where he spent a difficult time of civil disorder in his country. He said: “Having drawn and painted since a child, I have reacted to my early experience by considering the futility and hypocrisy of war through art. As time went by I developed an interest in Vietnam and Cambodia where I have researched extensively and completed a number of art projects since 1992. There I witnessed the aftermath of conflict in its indiscriminately brutal form and it is from this point that my work proceeds.”

One of his special projects is Queen Bee to analyze the effects of war. It started in 2004 with Snake Bar & Tea Room in Roger Smith Gallery, New York. Since then it has been developed in several locations around the world. Queen Bee, War Remnants Museum is a new project within this larger body of work, first shown in Art Basel Miami Beach 2007. As well as these events, to date Queen Bee has encompassed stand-alone paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

Dickson has had hundreds of painting exhibitions in the U.S., Northern Ireland, England, Sweden, Germany and Vietnam.

Art Talk which is held biweekly by Saigon Artbook and 3A Alternative Art Area will introduce an artist residing/working in HCMC and his/her exhibition to viewers. At the event, the artist will share his/her stories and motivations and inspirations with around 50 participants in a cozy atmosphere with no distance.

The free entrance programs will be conducted in English from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees are advised to bring drawing tools like a sketch book, a pencil and an eraser to learn painting with Dickson.
