Nhưỡng, born in Hùng Dũng Commune, Hưng Hà District, Thái Bình Province, is the former deputy head of the National Assembly's Ombudsman Committee and a representative for the southern province of Bến Tre for the 2016-21 term.
Nhưỡng lives in Tây Hồ District, Hà Nội.
The police also searched his home and workplace.
The arrest and search were approved by the People's Procuracy of Thái Bình Province.
Nhưỡng's arrest was the result of an expanded investigation from the case of Phạm Minh Cường, 37, of Xuân Thụy Commune, Thái Thụy District in Thái Bình Province. Cường was also arrested for “property appropriation” following Article 70, the Penal Code.
Further investigations are ongoing.
Cường is the ringleader of a criminal gang operating in Thái Thụy District. He has three criminal convictions.
In April 2022, he and four other suspects were charged with “intentionally causing injury" and "disturbing public order".
Police also discovered that Cường was involved with a number of criminals in Thủy Nguyên District in Hải Phòng City and Hưng Yên Province to run illegal protection rackets for sea sand exploitation and supply activities, assaulting others, and disturbing public order in Thái Bình Province. — VNS
