VietNamNet Bridge - While pushing a stroller carrying five newborns for a bath, a nurse of the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital slipped, making the vehicle overturn, and the five babies fell out.
The stroller used at the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital.
The incident was reported at 9am on July 14. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, Director of the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital said the babies were immediately examined at the Central Pediatrics Hospital. Four babies were determined to be normal and one was suspected of concussion of the brain. This baby was okay after one day so she was transferred back to the Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital for further care.
The babies left the hospital three days later.
"As the leader of the hospital, I fully accept responsibility if there is any problem with the babies. We also exempted the entire hospital fees for the children and their mothers. We also committed to give examinations to the baby at the request of the families in the next six months," said Dr. Anh.
"I gave each family a special permission. With this document, they can take the babies to the Obstetric Ward for examination. The employee who caused trouble must be fined seriously, whether inadvertently or not," added Dr. Anh.
The nurse has been suspended from her work to wait for investigation.
"Learning from this, the hospital will ask staff to not use small strollers any more and each stroller must be taken care of by two nurses," he said.
According to a doctor of the Hanoi Pediatrics Hospital, it is very dangerous for infants to fall to the ground from a height of 1m.
Regarding the doubt that the nurse intentionally did this because the mothers of these babies did not give tips to her, the doctor said that with professional conscience, the nurse did not intentionally do this.
