VietNamNet Bridge – The southern province of Ben Tre was preparing to install satellite equipment in its offshore fishing boats, said Phan Thanh Nhat, deputy director of the provincial Department of Fishery Exploitation and Resources Protection.

The satellite receivers will enable the province to control and define the position of boats at sea.

Check-point stations will inform boat crews of bad weather, dangerous waters, rich fishing grounds and help maintain contact with boats in the event of problems.

Offshore fishing boats in 28 coastal provinces and cities have been equipped with satellite receivers, according to the latest Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) project

Under the ministry's project "Observation systems for fishing boats, fishing grounds and fisheries resources using Movimar satellite technologies", all fishing boast will be provided with the necessary satellite equipment free of charge.
