Staff of resorts along the coast of Vung Tau (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) said oil lumps appeared on the coast in early morning on Monday, but a few hours later a large volume of oil washed ashore, polluting beaches.

The Vung Tau Environmental Service JSC, the Vung Tau Urban Works Company and resorts along the coast mobilized hundreds of workers to collect oil and transport it to a waste treatment complex in Tan Thanh district.

At noon, the oil melted under the scorching sun, causing difficulties for oil collectors.

According to an official of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the oil cannot be recycled because it is harmful waste.

This phenomenon appeared in Vung Tau in previous years but the authorities have not discovered the cause.

"The coast will be cleaned within two days," the official said.
