VietNamNet Bridge - Village wells constructed of bricks or laterite are not only water supply points for the whole villages, but also are the characteristic of rural Vietnam. In many places in Hanoi, village wells are still preserved.

The Ngoc (Pearl) Well in front of the King An Duong Vuong Temple in
Co Loa commune (Dong Anh District, Hanoi). Legend has it that
it was the place where Trong Thuy drowned after his wife My Chau
was killed by her father. Ngoc Well is located in the middle of a pond
 and its water has a very special color - red brown.
A well in Vu Ngoai Hamlet (Lien Bat commune, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi)
 is no longer used but in is full lotus. Besides the well is a market.
Just next to the gate of the Ve Temple in Dong Ngac (Tu Liem district, Hanoi)
are two large wells, which are called by local people as dragon eyes.
Thay Pagoda Well in Sai Son village (Quoc Oai district, Hanoi) is no
 longer used so it is full of moss and water-ferns.
Dragon Eye Well near Long Tri lake under the foot of Sai Son Mountain
 (Hoang Xa village, Phuong Cach commune, Quoc Oai district).
 Across the lake is also a well, symbolizing two eyes of a dragon.
Being built at the same time with the Tram Gian temple (Chuong My district, Hanoi)
 is Gieng Chua (Temple Well). Its water is clean and people still use it.

 where children swim in the summer.

On the side of the Lang Pagoda (Hanoi) there is also a large circle-shaped well.
