Both vehicles are heavily damaged after the collision on January 16


According to a report from local police, the coach was transporting 44 staff members of a company based in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau home for the Tet Lunar New Year Holiday. It suddenly collided with a passenger bus carrying 10 people which was running in the opposite direction on the Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway at 3.50 am on January 16.

The strong collision left the two vehicles heavily damaged. Many passengers were trapped in the vehicles. 

Police soon arrived and found the driver of the coach Le Quy Dung, 48, dead in his cabin with serious injuries. 26 other passengers were injured including two seriously. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The 139-kilometre Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway has no crash barriers in the section where the accident happened.

Police are further investigating the cause of the accident.
