The four-seater Vinataxi vehicle hit an automobile at the Nga Tu So intersection at 10.30pm yesterday. The taxi driver ran away, after hitting a person and pushing him onto the car's hood.

All motorbikes are damaged after the serious accident.

The taxi, with a person lying on its hood, kept moving on the flyover and crashed into at least seven motorbikes that were travelling in the opposite direction.

The person lying on the car's hood and the bikers were thrown onto the flyover. Two or three of them fainted. The front part of the taxi was destroyed.

Some witnesses said the taxi driver was so frightened that he jumped from the 5m-high flyover onto the road below and fainted.

All the victims, including the taxi driver, were taken to hospital.

Commander Le Tu, head of the Traffic Police Team No 3, told Vnexpress.net that the taxi driver was 41-year-old Dang Ngoc Cuong from Ha Noi's Hoan Kiem District.

Initial investigation showed Cuong was neither behaving strangely nor had consumed alcohol while driving the taxi, Tu said.

The Chua Boc-Thai Ha Flyover was inaugurated in April 2012 to reduce traffic jams in the area. It is used by motorbikes and vehicles with less than nine seats, and has a speed limit of 25km per hour.

Also yesterday, the Da Lat City Police in the Central Highlands Lam Dong Province seized a lorry driver who had run away after causing an accident.

Thirty-two-year-old Truong Hong Duy, from the central Quang Ngai Province, crashed his lorry, owned by Thong Nu Company in Da Lat City, into a motorbike on Nguyen Cong Tru Road at 8pm on Saturday. The biker, 51-year-old Le Thuong, died on the way to hospital and his wife, Tran Thi Dien, 53, died instantly.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
