VietNamNet Bridge – More than 3,000 organisations have violated land-use law, according to Truong Minh Tuan, deputy head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Publicity and Education.
Citing a report made at the 5th Plenum of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee early this month, Tuan said at a meeting held on Wednesday by the HCM City People's Committee that violators had improperly used land that covered a total of 26,000 ha.
At the plenum, State officials demanded that the land be leased or handed over to people to use for either a long – or short-term period.
However, they did not say whether agricultural land that had been previously given to families and individuals would be taken back.
At the plenum, the Communist Party also openly criticised inept corruption-prevention activities, and said that improper spending was counter-productive to those efforts.
Officials said corruption and misspending was still occurring and had even increased.
At the meeting, Nguyen Van Dua, deputy secretary of the city People's Committee, requested that city authorities enhance people's awareness of new policies passed at the plenum and show initiative in applying them at the local level.
