Two Mongolian eagles have been imported to Hanoi. They were recently displayed at a café on Hang Ruoi Street.

The eagles belong to a Hanoi man named Nguyen Van Ha. Ha said they are Golden Eagles and they are priced about VND10,000 each.

Ha said in order to bring the two birds to Vietnam, he had to go through many complicated procedures.

Experienced bird breeders say taking care of an eagle is very difficult. The food for eagles are rats, cows, pigs and fish, among others, and they need 2-3 meals a day.

Ly Hung Tu, in Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi is the owner of 13 transgenic birds, including six white-eyes and seven red-whiskered bulbuls, totaling VND1 billion (nearly $50,000).

Tu’s most expensive bird is a transgenic white-eye, priced about $10,300. Other birds are also worth several thousands of US dollars because all of them are rare.

Pham Si Ha in Haiphong city is the owner of many expensive white-eyes. His rarest bird is a white-eye worth VND110 million ($5,000). This bird is famous among bird breeders in Vietnam because it won many competitions for white-eyes.

In the central city of Da Nang, there are hundreds of birds players. The most famous is Vo Anh Tuan, who owns a group of birds worth over $50,000.

His Australian parrot is unique in Da Nang, with white feathers and yellow crest. This bird is priced more than $2,000.
