Granta is a literary magazine and a prestigious publishing brand in the UK. In 1983, Granta introduced the first list of 20 best young novelists of England.

Since then, every 10 years Granta makes this list. Granta List is compared to "prophetic choice" because at least 12 writers selected by Granta were short listed or even honored by the prestigious literary awards such as the Man Booker Prize or Whitbread Prize (the most prestigious literary awards in the UK).

Ian McEwan, the author of “Atonement,” or Kazuo Ishiguro, the author of “Never Let Me Go,” or Julian Barnes, the author of “England, England” are the evidence for Granta’s "prophetic choice."
