VietNamNet Bridge – Becoming a geography teacher to teach students about marine and island sovereignty or joining the army to defend the country, are the ideas of the most excellent university graduates in 2011, at a talks entitled “Outstanding students with the country’s sea and islands”.

The talks were organized by the High Command of Navy and the Hanoi Youth Union in the morning of August 14, in the port city of Hai Phong. The event attracted hundreds of young soldiers, 112 most excellent university graduates in 2011 from Hanoi and naval officials.

“We hope that you – the most excellent university graduates – and the young generation to do their best to build the country. Let’s join the navy. Your brainpower and youth power will help develop the naval forces to defend the country’s marine and island sovereignty,” said colonel Dinh Gia That, political commissar of the naval forces.

At the talks, many outstanding university graduates expressed their sentiment to naval soldiers. A future teacher – Nguyen Thi Chau Loan – the top graduate of the Hanoi Teacher Training University this year said that she loves geography, via stories about the country’s sea and islands of her geography teacher. That teacher told his students: “Once the East Sea has the naval forces, our sea and island sovereignty will be defended”.

“I will transmit my students complete knowledge about our country’s island and territorial waters sovereignty and the sacrifice and devotion of naval soldiers,” Chau Loan said.

Nguyen Ngoc Dung, the top graduate of the Mining and Geology University, said that he studied geology so he had many chances to learn about surveillance projects of continental shelf and islands which were carried out by his lecturers, who told their students about the truthfulness, whole-hearted assistance and sacrifice of naval soldiers.

“I hope to have an opportunity to cooperate with colonel and to perform offshore surveillance projects,” Dung said.

Naval soldier Nguyen Huu Luyen

Naval soldier Nguyen Huu Luyen, from the naval flotilla 4 said that difficulties and hardships always travel with naval soldiers. Their daily life is very hard. It is normal for naval soldiers to take a bath each 8-10 days. They always wait for rain to be able to have bath at ease.

“We have families and girlfriends. We want to be with them and they want to be with us. But they always encourage us to keep our mind at work. Our comrades have sacrificed for the country. They have supplemented more strength for us to defend the country’s sovereignty,” Luyen said.

Ha Linh Chi, the leading graduate of the Foreign Language University, said that when she just graduated university, a military school invited her as lecturer but she refused because she though that the working environment in the army is strict. But after meeting with naval soldiers, she was determined to join the army.

“I will become a Russian language teacher for engineers who control ships and equipment imported from Russia. I want to join the naval forces,” she said.

“If we are assigned to work in remote areas or on islands, we are ready to accept because thanks to the sacrifice of soldiers, we have opportunity to study and grow up. The young generation will join with soldiers to build and defend the country,” said the leading graduate of the National Administration Institute.
