The patients were reportedly poisoned by bread from a shop in Buon Ma Thuot City.

On Wednesday, dozens of victims were rushed to Thien Hanh General Hospital, Buon Ma Thuot City Hospital, Tay Nguyen General Hospital and Dak Lak General Hospital with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

At 4.30pm on Thursday, the patients had increased to 121 with two emergency cases at Tay Nguyen General Hospital, Thong said.

Department officials have collected food samples for examination at the Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The bread shop owner has been instructed to shut down until further notice.

The provincial Health Department has set up three teams to visit the patients and take samples for testing.

The hospitals have been asked to provide treatment and co-ordinate with authorities to investigate the cause of the incident.
