VietNamNet Bridge – More than 150 Heroic Mothers (mothers of war martyrs) and their relatives met at the Southern Women’s Museum in HCM City on December 20. HCM City has 1,963 Heroic Mothers but only 165 of them are alive.

On this occasion, the museum opened an exhibition entitled “Portrait of Heroic Mothers of Vietnam.”

At the meeting, many mothers could not speak, but only cried for their children who laid down their lives for the country in the wars of resistance against the French and American.

“I miss my children. My four sons were very tall, but…” a mother said and burst into tears.

Mother Pham Thi The, 108, from Binh Chanh district, HCM City, recalled the nights that she canoed to supply food to soldiers and worked on the field under bombs. The mother lost his four sons and she could not find the remains of three.

Mother Ho Thi Ha from Binh Thanh district, HCM City, had her husband and daughter gave up their lives for the country in 1968, 1969. The mother tried to stand up after the great losses to continue her contribution to the revolutionary forces until the country’s unification.

In the war of resistance against the US, mother Nguyen Thi Diem was a commando who participated in many battles inside Saigon. Her husband and two sons also sacrificed for the country in the Ho Chi Minh campaign.

To celebrate the 67th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22), the Southern Women’s Museum displays thousands of exhibits and 1,900 files of HCM City’s Heroic Mothers.

“These documents clearly portray the city’s Heroic Mothers, who have normal but great lives,” said the museum’s director Nguyen Thi Tham.
