In a striking display of patriotism, more than 2,000 students and teachers at Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School in Hanoi gathered on August 20 to form a massive Vietnamese national flag covering the entire schoolyard. The event marked the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the Ministry of Education and Training (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025).
Principal Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy emphasized that education goes beyond imparting knowledge. “It is about planting in each generation a love for the homeland, resilience, a sense of responsibility for the nation’s future, and the aspiration to elevate Vietnam on the world stage,” she said. According to her, this was why the school chose to begin the 2025-2026 academic year with a special lesson in tradition and national pride.
Speaking to the students, Ms. Thuy noted that Gen Z has the privilege of growing up in a peaceful country in an era of global integration and boundless digital technology.
“On this journey, I hope you will carry a warm heart, a bright mind, and steadfast hands to continue the spirit of our forefathers. Study to excel, train to become resilient, and live to contribute to the community and the nation. Let the aspirations of youth blend with the heartbeat of the nation, so that the red flag with the golden star continues to fly not only today but also shine on the new heights you will conquer,” she shared.
To mark the occasion, the school invited renowned artists including singers Tung Duong, Le Anh Dung, and People’s Artist Thu Huyen to perform and interact with teachers and students.
Principal Thuy said the initiative aligned with the Ministry of Education and Training’s policy of engaging professional artists, artisans, and athletes in school activities, particularly in culture, arts, sports, and life skills education.
“The artists brought songs that stirred national spirit and inspired students with powerful melodies about the homeland. I believe this will awaken values and aspirations of the nation within each child,” she said.
