VietNamNet Bridge – More than 500 guest workers still stranded in war-torn Libya will return to Vietnam in a couple of days under the Government’s recent directions after recent evacuations by charter flights and roads from Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey.

Vietnamese ambassador to Libya Dao Duy Tien said that by August 12 a total of 1,024 Vietnamese workers have left Libya by air and road through Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt.

All Vietnamese labourers working in violence-plagued Tripoli and Benghazi cities have been evacuated safely, said Tien.

The remaining workers, who stay far from the war-torn areas, are still in good condition. Many of them, including 33 in Ajidabya City, northeast of Libya, are waiting for Egyptian entry passports to pass through the Salloum border gate.

More than 100 people in Sabha City, southwest of Libya, are planning to evacuate from Libya from August 20-29.

An additional 161 workers are expected to leave Libya on August 13, with 92 travelling by road to Tunisia to wait for flights back home on August 14-15. Some 69 out of the 682 labourers employed by the Korean Huyndai Engineering & Construction are flying to Cairo before returning home on commercial flights.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs request, the Vietnamese embassy in Libya has co-ordinated with labour companies and employers to bring guest workers home as soon as possible. Only 245 workers in Misrata City, northwest of Libya, are not ready for evacuation.

Ambassador Tien said that the embassy has frequently contacted Libyan company NDCC to search for their three Vietnamese workers reportedly missing in Benghazi city since July 26.

It has also sent a diplomatic note to the Libyan ministries of foreign and interior affairs, asking for support in the search for these workers.
