Statistics from Tan Son Nhat Airport Operations Center showed that this airport handled more than 1,100 flights from the midnight of February 1 to 4 p.m. of February 3. Among those, 659 flights were delayed, accounting for nearly 60%.
Vietjet Air delayed 257 flights, accounting for over 74% of its scheduled flights. Similarly, Vietnam Airlines had 209 flights delayed, making up over 59% of the total.
In addition, there had been 40 flights canceled due to bad weather since early this month, making up 3.63%, reported the VnExpress news site.
Flight delays have been on the rise since February 1 because of heavy fog and low visibility in northern provinces, resulting in many aircraft being unable to take off or land on schedule.
Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan urged tighter coordination between airports and airlines in flight management and operation, emphasizing the need to arrange flight schedules appropriately to minimize flight delays as much as possible
The Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to handle 60,000 domestic passengers today, February 4. During peak hours, the airport might handle nearly 4,000 passengers concurrently.
