The event was jointly held by the association Rencontres du Vietnam, the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) and the MIDSEA Network working in the area of modelling infectious diseases in South East Asia.

In his address, Prof. Jean Tran Thanh Van, founder of Rencontres du Vietnam and director of the ICISE, said in its development strategy, the Center hopes to coordinate with international scholars in the field of science to organize events such as the MIDSEA Summer School, Workshop and Symposium to contribute to scientific development in Southeast Asia.

Prof. Alexander Richard Cook at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore (NUS), welcomed the ICISE’s initiative to organize the forum, which he said creates the opportunity for young graduates throughout Southeast Asia and beyond to share experiences and learn about their research.

The school wishes to continue to coordinate with the ICISE to organize summer schools, workshops and symposiums in the future, he said.

During the week-long event, delegates will participate in discussions and research on models of infectious diseases. They will examine Parallel Tracks to cover basic and advanced topics in infectious disease modelling; and opportunities to network with other modellers of different experience levels from across Southeast Asia and beyond.
