VietNamNet Bridge – Overseas Vietnamese singers have returned to perform in their homeland after Tet (Lunar New Year festival), mostly in live shows on large stages instead of smaller venues like bars, hotels and nightclubs as they had done in the past.

Bang Kieu's live show, Con Mo Bang Gia (Frozen Dream), will take place at the Palace of Culture and Friendship in Ha Noi on March 7 and 8.

He will perform a series of 10 romantic songs written by famous composers to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8.

"I hope my performance will highlight women on their day. I also want to serve my friends and fans who share my love and passion for music," he says.

Kieu, who returns home often from the US, invited diva Hong Nhung and pop star Uyen Linh to join the show.

Before his live show, Kieu and pop singer Le Quyen of HCM City will also perform at a small concert called De Nho Mot Thoi Ta Yeu Nhau (Love in Memory) at the Golden Palace in Dong Nai Province this Saturday.

Unlike his peer, veteran singer-dancer Nguyen Hung and singer Phi Nhung chose HCM City for their performance on February 26.

While Hung performed in the nightclub Dong Dao, Nhung participated in the music gala called Da Tiec Mua Xuan (Spring Gala) together with pop idol Dan Truong.

"The best stage for a singer is anywhere in their homeland with an audience," said Truong, who began his career in 2000 and moved to live in the US two years ago.

Veteran singers Khanh Ly and Khanh Ha also plan to organise their live show in Ha Noi this month.

Ha will regale local audiences at the concert, Lau Dai Tinh Ai (Castle of Love), at the Opera House on March 12.

She will sing songs written by Anh Bang and Tran Thien Thanh.

Later, Ly, who was famous for songs written by the late composer Trinh Cong Son before 1975, will fly to Ha Noi on March 27.

She plans to organise live shows in the city and Binh Duong Province.

Manh Quynh, a popular singer of Paris By Night, a flagship programme produced by the Paris-based Thuy Nga Productions, has announced that he will perform a show in HCM City in April.

He will light up the Hoa Binh Theatre by singing more than 20 songs, including folk and cai luong (reformed opera) songs, which shot him to fame in both the US and Viet Nam.

"I enjoy oversea Vietnamese singers because they offer a different taste from local artists. They also make me feel close to them and want to share their feelings," said Nguyen Khanh Tam, a resident of HCM City.

Vo Trong Nam, deputy director of the HCM City's Culture and Sports Department, said that in recent years increasing numbers of oversea Vietnamese artists have been invited to perform in Viet Nam. Their shows play a role in the local industry's development, he added.
