On July 7, the General Secretary held talks with US President Barack Obama in the Oval Office of the White House.

At the talks, the two sides discussed and agreed on the broad orientation for developing bilateral ties in the future.

After the talks at the White House, Vice President Joe Biden hosted the solemn reception banquet for Mr. Trong and the Vietnam delegation at the US State Department.

In the afternoon of July 7, also in Washington, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Vietnam - US representatives of social classes.

The same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with US religious leaders.

On July 8, the Party Chief spoke at the USA Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington.

During the talks, Mr. Trong stressed that the two countries should continue dialogues to have an objective assessment of the issue of human rights and religion in Vietnam.

In the afternoon of July 8, Mr. Trong and the Vietnam delegation attended a roundtable discussion with representatives of American businesses, held by the US Chamber of Commerce and the US - ASEAN Business Council.

The same day, at the office of the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, Mr. Trong witnessed the signing ceremony of important cooperation documents between Vietnam and the US.

Also on July 8, the Party General Secretary had meetings with US lawmakers at the Parliament building and met with Senator John McCain.

Senator McCain introduced photos in his office to Mr. Trong.

On the morning of July 9, in Washington, the Party General Secretary and the Vietnam delegation visited the Vietnam Embassy in the United States.

The same day, he witnessed the signing of four cooperation agreements between Vietnam and the World Bank to support agricultural development, green transport and poverty reduction.

Also on July 9, in the city of New York, the General Secretary met with representatives of the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese students in the United States.

On July 10, the Party Chief and the Vietnam delegation met with a group of academics from Harvard University.

Mr. Trong also attended the licence granting ceremony for the construction of the Fulbright University in Vietnam.

The same day, the Party Chief visited the family of former President Bill Clinton in the suburbs of New York City.

Mr. Trong presented a picture to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his visit to the UN headquarters in New York on July 10.

At 9 am on July 11, the special aircraft carrying General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnam delegation left John F. Kennedy International Airport (New York), wrapping up the visit.
