Hoa Lu Commune People’s Court found Vu Van Hung, 52, guilty of sexually assaulting the 11-year-old girl and ordered him to pay a compensation of VND17.6 million (US$780) to the victim and her family.
According to the police investigation, the girl went to Hung’s house on April 30 after he called her on the pretext of giving some instant noodles. When Hung was alone with the girl, he touched her inappropriately and was found out by the girl’s sister.
After hearing the story, the girls’ mother reported Hung to the police, but he denied the allegation.
A medical examination of the girl confirmed injuries to her genital, although her hymen was intact. The HIV test result of the girl was negative.
The victim’s family said that they would appeal the court’s ruling as they believed it was too light a sentence for the paedophile.
