In the men’s up to 49kg category, Le Van Cong won a gold medal in the clean and jerk after lifting 168kg.
The second gold medal went to Cong as he successfully lifted a total of 496kg after recording 161kg, 167kg, and 168kg across three attempts. The Vietnamese team are currently placed in third position in the medal tally.
The 2024 Para Powerlifting World Cup began on May 8 and is set to last through to May 11. This year has seen the tournament attract 149 weightlifters from 31 countries and territories worldwide.
The host nation Thailand has a total of 21 weightlifters in the competition, which is the largest number of athletes from one nation competing in the tournament. In contrast, Vietnam has six athletes competing in the World Cup.
The World Cup also offers important world rankings points for the athletes' qualification for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, the deadline of which is in July.
