Fliers from clubs nationwide will compete in a paragliding race on Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang on June 29-30.

Around 35 pilots will race from the top of Son Tra Mountain (693m above sea level) to My Khe Beach, the city's vice-director of culture, sport and tourism Nguyen Phuc Linh said on Monday.

A qualifying round and final round will precede the championships. Competitors will have one or two days to train before the race.

Paragliding is a recreational and competitive sport that took off in the country 10 years ago.

The event seeks to promote tourism in the city during the summer.

Last year, the coastal city hosted the International Paramotor Race, which drew thousands of spectators.
