VietNamNet Bridge - A number of districts in HCMC will face a running water shortfall in the next two weeks as the supplier is working on a plan to move a key water pipeline to make way for an environmental cleanup project.

Users in districts 1, 3, 5, 10, 11 and some others will have less running water or see water becoming muddy from December 29 to January 12.
Saigon Water Corporation (Sawaco), the city’s main supplier, announced late last week that it was moving a section of the 2,000-millimeter pipeline at Dien Bien Phu Bridge, thus leading pressure of water to fall considerably.
This pipeline is now used to transport clean water from Thu Duc water treatment plant to the above districts.
The city is building a drainage system for the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal basin as part of a project to improve the environment for the city.
Sawaco said it would be replacing the pipeline section with a smaller one on Dien Bien Phu Bridge with a diameter of 1,200 millimeters. After that, it will also set up a 2,000-millimeter steel pipe there to ensure water pressure.
“In the construction pipeline process, water supply will not be as sufficient as usual due to reduced pressure, and sometimes it may be muddy,” says the announcement.
Sawaco said it will increase the water pressure in other pipelines such as Binh Thai-Binh Loi pipeline, BOO Thu Duc Water Plant or Tan Hiep Water Plant and even using tanks carrying water to affected residential areas.
