Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong arrived in Hanoi on the afternoon of September 18, successfully concluding his official visit to Japan made at the invitation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

During his four-day stay, the Party chief held talks with Abe, had meetings with Emperor Akihito, President of the House of Councilors Masaaki Yamazaki and Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima, and received Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.

He also met with representatives from all walks of life and the business community, as well as leaders of Japan’s major political parties and major economic groups, and visited Kanagawa prefecture.

During the talks and meetings, the two sides affirmed they will treasure bilateral relations, pledging to work together to promote the strategic partnership comprehensively and intensively.

They agreed to strengthen cooperation and promote sustainable linkages between the two economies with the focus on connectivity in development strategy, production capacity and human resources.

Both countries were unanimous in expanding collaboration in culture, people-to-people exchange, education-training, science-technology and defence security, as well as continuing close coordination at regional and international forums.

On this occasion, the two sides adopted a statement on a joint vision for Vietnam-Japan relations, which specifies major orientations and cooperation measures to strongly and comprehensively boost the bilateral ties in the future.

Ten cooperation agreements were also signed during the Party leader’s visit.

Party chief sends thank message to Japanese PM

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong cabled a message of thanks to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the end of his official visit to Japan from September 15-18.

The Party leader extended his sincere thanks to the Japanese Emperor, Prime Minister, leaders, and people for their warm reception and friendly sentiments.

He expressed his belief that the positive outcomes of the visit will make substantial contributions to enhancing the friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and deepening the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan, benefiting prosperity of the two nations, happiness of the two peoples, as well as peace and prosperity in Asia.

Trong said he brought home deep impressions of a beautiful Japan which is growing vigorously with industrious, creative, and hospitable people, adding that he has strong belief in the thriving friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He wished the Japanese Government and people more significant achievements in the cause of national development.

The extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan for peace and prosperity in Asia will be further increased in the coming time, he wrote.

Party leader opens investmen-labour cooperation forum in Kanagawa

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong opened a forum on Vietnam-Japan investment, trade and labour cooperation in Kanagawa Prefecture on September 18 as part of his visit to Japan.

Addressing an audience of local officials including Kanagawa Governor Kuroiwa Yuji and more than 400 business representatives, the Party leader said the comprehensive friendship and cooperation relationship between the two countries is now at its peak so far.

“On the basis of achieved results, Vietnam wishes to deepen the ties with Japan in all fields, especially in the economic field,” he said, stressing that boosting economic cooperation between the two countries is an objective demand which will bring both immediate and long-term benefits to the business communities and people of the two countries.

The General Secretary said with political trust, cultural similarities, friendship, compatible interests and complementary economies, Vietnam and Japan have all conditions to continuously develop their relationship in the principle of “enhancing trust, increasing economic connectivity, expanding cooperation, developing sustainably and looking towards the future.”

The Vietnam Day, which was launched in Kanagawa the same day, and the forum demonstrate the huge potential and desire for stronger cooperation between the two countries.

He urged local authorities and business communities of both countries to lead the way in realising agreements signed by leaders of the two countries, positively contributing to bringing the cooperation of the two countries to a new level.

Do Nhat Hoang, head of the Foreign Investment Agency, took the occasion to introduce Japanese enterprises to new investment incentives for foreign investors, especially those in infrastructure building. He also answered questions from Japanese enterprises relating to investment procedures in Vietnam.-
