Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted Chinese Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun in Ha Noi yesterday, saying that both sides should enrich co-operation, especially in training law enforcement.

The host suggested facilitating all-level visits, and sharing information and experience in combating transnational and cyber crimes.

He asked Guo to convey his thanks to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, State President Xi Jinping and other leaders for their warm reception during his recent China visit.

Guo, who is also a State Councilor, briefed his host about the outcomes of co-ordination between the two public security ministries as well as their joint working plans.

He affirmed that common perceptions reached by the two Party leaders, during Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit, would orient the conduct of two countries' ministries in order to collaborate and maintain security in their respective countries.

Security ministers' talk

Earlier yesterday, Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang held talks with his Chinese counterpart.

They signed a plan to implement a memorandum of understanding of the fourth ministerial meeting on preventing and combating crime.

The document specifies that both countries should continually share information on crime prevention to ensure security, foil sabotage schemes by reactionary forces and criminals, and guarantee safety for their leaders and bilateral diplomatic activities.

They agreed to work together to tackle illegal human migration, and ensure security and safety for agencies, enterprises, cadres, students and citizens of each country.

The two sides also agreed to expand co-operation in staff training.

Border guard ties

A co-operation agreement establishing a co-ordination mechanism for border guards was signed between Viet Nam and China yesterday.

The pact's memorandum of understanding was inked back in January of 2013.

The final signing took place at a meeting between Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and Chinese Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun during his working trip to Viet Nam.

At the function, Thanh said that the ties between the two armies and police forces serves as a pillar of the strengthening relation between Viet Nam and China over the last 65 years.

Guo stated that his visit aimed to consolidate their two forces' collaborations.

Both sides discussed the effect of world and regional affairs on each nation and put forth a number of measures to bolster their future co-operation.

Over the past years, Viet Nam's Defence Ministry and China's Public Security Ministry have efficiently co-operated on shared border checkpoints, entry-exit activities, combating crimes and establishing multi-tiered border relations.
