He met with the diplomats, whose term runs from 2016 to 2019, at the Party Central Committee’s headquarters in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan.

The ambassadors and heads of representative agencies expressed their honour to take the positions. They promised to do their utmost to fulfill their tasks, reinforcing Viet Nam’s friendship with other countries and international organisations.

General Secretary Trong said to successfully perform their duties, the diplomats have to thoroughly grasp Party and State guidelines and viewpoints. They must have an in-depth understanding of the countries they will work in, so as to be ready for any circumstance.

They must also continually self-improve to be deserving of representing the country, people and culture of Viet Nam, the leader added.
