VietNamNet Bridge – Viet Nam and China should strive to find a satifactory solution to disputes involving the East Sea to help boost Sino-Vietnamese relations.

Trong said the activities of the committee should be enhanced, adding that the Party and people highly valued relations with China.

He also said committee members should work together closely and boost exchanges and co-operation in every field at all levels. Committee members should also try to peacefully resolve problems that arose in bilateral ties.

Briefing Trong on the outcome of the session, Dai said the party and government of China also attached great importance to relations with Viet Nam.

He said that although problems sometimes arose, the two sides shared a common ideology and had similar development goals.

He said he hoped Trong would soon visit China, and expressed his firm belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the Vietnamese people would continue to enjoy increasing prosperity. He also praised the successful implementation of the 11th National Party Congress resolution.

Co-operation

The Party, Government and people of Viet Nam attach great importance to working with China to boost comprehensive co-operation in line with the 16-word motto, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

At a separate meeting with Dai Bingguo yesterday, Dung told his guest that closer Sino-Vietnamese relations would benefit both nations and encourage peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region.

The Prime Minister said he also appreciated what the two sides had achieved in implementing three documents relating to land borders. This he said had contributed to building a peaceful, friendly, co-operative relations.

Regarding the East Sea, Dung said differences in viewpoint on the issue between the two sides was a matter of fact.

He said the two countries needed to look at the long term. Both sides need to take fundamental measures that are acceptable to Viet Nam and China. He said any action should be in line with the UN's 1982 Convention on Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The two sides need to hasten negotiations to sign an agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues between Viet Nam and China.

Meanwhile, Dai Bingguo affirmed the Party and government of China attached great importance to friendly relations with Viet Nam.

He agreed with Dung that the two countries should hold negotiations on the East Sea, and iron out any differences of opinion.
