Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during his ongoing official visit to China on October 12, at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President Hu Jintao.



During his meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao, Mr Trong congratulated China’s great achievements in all fields, helping the country become the world’s second largest economy.

He highlighted the strong and fruitful development in bilateral ties during the past 20 years, saying that the two countries have built a comprehensive, strategic partnership under the "16-word" motto (Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive co-operation, durable stability and future-oriented vision) and the "four-good" spirit (Good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners).
 
Vietnam and China have experienced comprehensive cooperation in various areas, particularly in economics, trade, education and training, and science and technology, Mr Trong said.

The Vietnamese Party leader also stressed that the healthy relationship between the two Parties and States plays a vital role in ensuring stability and boosting development in both countries.

Premier Wen Jiabao expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnamese people will obtain greater achievements in realizing the goal of building a prosperous people, a powerful nation and an equitable, democratic and civilized society.

The two sides pledged to enhance their friendship and cooperation in the future, especially enhancing political confidence among leaders and people of both countries.

They highly valued the five-year plan on economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China, vowing that the plan will be successfully implemented for mutual benefits.

They agreed that in the immediate period, the two countries should focus on key projects signed by both sides, such as the building of the Vietnam-China Friendship Palace in Hanoi and the construction of the Long Jiang-Haiphong economic and trade zone.

Vietnamese Party leader Trong conveyed Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s invitation to Premier Wen Jiabao to visit Vietnam at his earliest convenience.

The Chinese leader gave his thanks and happily accepted PM Dung’s invitation.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing on October 12.

Mr Trong briefed his host on the results of his high-level talks with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Hu Jintao, which he believed would help promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Mr Jia hailed the results of the talks, saying they will lay a firm foundation for consolidating and strengthening comprehensive cooperation between China and Vietnam.

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will continue making a positive contribution to further developing bilateral ties, said Mr Jia.

The same day, Mr Trong visited Zhong Guancun hi-tech zone which is considered China’s Silicon Valley. Zone leaders briefed Mr Trong on operations of businesses specialising in electronic products and building materials.

The zone, which is housing nearly 200 businesses earning total annual revenue of 1.6 trillion Chinese Yuan, has developed relations with 192 countries in the world. It is expanding cooperation with ASEAN countries, including Vietnam.

Mr Trong proposed that Chinese businesses increase investment in Vietnam and share experience in the areas of their strength with their Vietnamese counterparts.
