VietNamNet Bridge – On April 12, the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee held a conference to implement the Secretariat (11th tenure)’s Instruction 09 issued in December 2011 on enhancing the leadership of the Party over the movement to defend national security in the new situation.

The movement has mobilized people of all strata to become involved in combating crime and drug abuse and helping offenders integrate into the community. It has also contributed to boosting socio-economic development, reducing poverty, improving people’s living standards, and building a cultural lifestyle in residential areas.

The movement is behind 60-70 percent of the valuable information provided for relevant agencies to detect, investigate and deal with cases related to corruption, and organized and high-tech crime. There are more than 700 models and mass organizations involved in anti-crime activities in Vietnam.

However, the movement has yet to meet the requirements for ensuring national security in the new situation, as communication to encourage public involvement proved ineffective and the movement is not yet integrated with socio-economic development guidelines and policies.

In his speech at the conference, Politburo member and member of the Party Secretariat Le Hong Anh emphasized that defending national security and ensuring social order and safety is a regular key task of the entire Party, soldiers and people, as well the whole political system. Therefore, encouraging all people to participate in the movement is a long-term strategy under which Party organizations need to reinforce their leadership over the movement, Mr Anh said.

He also asked Party organizations, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations to devise action programmes to implement the movement more effectively. In addition, media agencies should step up communication on good people, good deeds and practical experiences from the movement.
