Trong emphasized the important role of the patriotic emulation movement which has made a great contribution to the achievements gained by Vietnam in the last five years.

“In the last five years, all ministries and branches, departments and agencies at all levels have been organizing ebullient and practical emulation movements, following closely the key political tasks of the branches and units, especially the movements on labor, creativity, teaching and learning, national security, the movements for the poor and on construction works,” Trong said.

He also mentioned the movement on building new rural areas, a strong and large-scale movement. This has been implemented with creative ideas and in practical ways, which has helped change the face of the rural areas and improve people’s lives.

Trong noted that in the patriotic emulation movement, many typical examples of individuals and institutions who have outstanding achievements in production have been found, while thousands of projects, initiatives and utility solutions which bring benefits to the society have been applied on a large scale.

Congratulating the great achievements gained in the patriotic emulation movement in the last five years, Trong pointed out some problems still exist. The movement has been expanded, but it remains incomprehensive, while it is sometimes superficial and heavy in formalism as it does not connects closely to political tasks.

He also noted that not many workers who join production have been found among the rewarded subjects. Some movements do not have pervasive effects.

Regarding the tasks for the time to come, Trong emphasized that it is necessary to grasp thoroughly the patriotic emulation thoughts of President Ho Chi Minh and continue to innovate the emulation and rewarding works, which must be associated with daily work of each person.

President Ho Chi Minh said: “Do not be mistaken that competition is a different job with daily work. In fact, the daily work is the foundation of emulation.”

Trong also said that branches and agencies need to consider the emulation results as the criteria to assess leaders, managers and Party’s members.

Emulation movements need to show practical purposes which attach much importance to the implementation of tasks in the localities, enterprises and agencies. The movements need to be organized in a creative way to prevent them from being boring and tedious.

“Emulation movement needs to be in a large scale, but it is necessary to clarify who emulates whom. It is necessary to minimize the difference in the capacity and conditions in emulation, ensure the harmonized benefits of workers, collective, localities and the society,” he said.

The secretary general emphasized that in emulation, it is necessary to reward individuals and institutions accurately and in a timely way so as to encourage the movements  and bring real effects, while it is necessary to pay attention to reward those who directly join the production.
