Ploang village in Truong Son commune, where about 60% of the population are Bru - Van Kieu people, is 43 km from Lao border.

Quang Binh has 9 communes located on the Vietnam - Laos border, with 1 international border gate, 1 national border gate and 1 secondary border gate, not to mention the open trail system...

This is a favorable condition for trade connection with other localities in Vietnam and Laos. However, the favorable geographical location also has many complex factors in terms of security and order, especially drug criminals taking advantage of it to transport drugs from Laos to Quang Binh and then take them to other provinces for consumption.

To strengthen drug prevention and combat, Quang Binh Provincial Police has stepped up propaganda and mobilization of people from all walks of life, especially in mountainous and border areas. Preventing from afar and stopping at the root are solutions proposed in drug prevention in mountainous villages of Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province.

Ploang village in Truong Son commune, where about 60% of the population are Bru - Van Kieu people, is 43 km from Lao border. People from the two countries often travel back and forth to exchange goods and visit relatives, so criminals take advantage of this to bribe people to transport drugs.

Identifying the importance of propaganda to raise people's awareness and promote the people's role in supervision, from April 2022, Quang Ninh District Police has coordinated with Truong Son Commune People's Committee and the local police agency, together with Rin Rin village, the father front of Ploang village launched the model "Drug-free border village".

According to Major Truong Thanh Hai, Deputy Head of Truong Son Commune Police, the model helps people know the methods and tricks of all types of criminals, especially drug crimes, inform people about types of drugs, thereby promoting the responsible role of the entire political system, especially village elders, village chiefs, reputable people among ethnic minorities and the masses participating in denouncing criminals.

The commune police force went directly to the area to grasp the people's thoughts and aspirations, and propagated so that ethnic minorities in the village could understand the harmful effects of drugs as well as the methods and tricks of the perpetrators, the phenomenon of luring, inciting, and bribing people to participate in drug transport... The villagers understood and believed in the authorities, so they took the initiative in reminding each other and monitoring strange subjects entering the village.

After more than a year of building and putting into operation the "Drug-free border village" model, the security and order situation in general and the drug crime situation in particular in villages in the border areas between Vietnam-Laos have improved. The people have all signed commitments to implement this model well.

Up to now, there are no drug addicts in the border area of Truong Son commune, nor have discovered any suspects crossing the border to trade drugs. However, control and prevention work is still strictly implemented.

Talking to VietNamNet, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Giang Nam, Head of Quang Ninh District Police, said: "In the coming time, we will continue to research and replicate this model to a number of villages in Truong Son commune and many other communes."

To promote socio-economic development in border areas in the province, in the coming time, the Provincial Border Work Steering Committee will continue to improve the quality and diversify tourism products and services, create unique tourism products that are highly competitive and attractive to tourists in border localities;

Develop tourism in the way that ensures effective and sustainable exploitation of natural resources, conservation and promotion of resource values and environmental protection; Encourage and provide incentives for investment in tourism, especially in key areas, remote areas, and border areas; Strengthen calling and promoting investment of domestic and foreign capital from all economic sectors to create comprehensive resources for investment in socio-economic development in border areas;

Support and create conditions for businesses, establishments and individuals to implement investment projects to develop production and business in the fields of agriculture, industry and commerce in border areas; Strengthen economic development policies in border gate areas, build border gate area infrastructure to increase goods exchange and economic development...
