VietNamNet Bridge – Old peach trees with trunks eaten by worms have become special products for the upcoming lunar New Year. Gardeners call these peach trees as trees that are turned into dragons.

These peach trees are actually old trees that are eaten by worms. They are rotten to the core but these trees are very strong so they are alive thanks to resin from the tree shell. The hardest core that is not rotten has become “lua”, which is as hard as iron.

Gardeners call these trees “peach trees that are turned into dragons”. Such trees are at least 30 years old. The trunks can’t develop and get older and older. The covers are moldy and lumpy.

In the past, such trees were chopped down but now they have become special products because the number of old peach trees is reducing.

Some gardeners graft wild peach trees with normal peach trees to make “ancient” trees but such trees are much cheaper than real old peach trees.

VietNamNet captures old peach trees in Phu Thuong and Nhat Tan flower villages, Hanoi.
