As universities have been competing with each other by lowering qualified scores, thousands of pedagogy university and college graduates have faced difficulties to find jobs.

There is a paradox that a few good students chose pedagogy universities that need good students to become future educators.

Only average students choose to become teachers as they are unable to take examination into other professions. As a result, qualifying scores into local universities such as Hong Duc, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Pham Van Dong and Phu Yen in the Central Vietnam are very low just at 13 or 14.

Speaking at a seminar “renovation in training to provide good teachers to meet education development demand” held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities recently, educationists and principals from pedagogy universities and colleges said that there was an alarm in training quality and more young teachers were hardly seeking jobs as the supply has exceeded the society’s demand, causing a huge waste.

For instance, in the academic year 2014-2015, the central province of Phu Yen has around 3,000 unemployed pedagogical graduates. The highlands province of Dak Lak received 3,000 applications for high school teachers in 2014 while its quota was 100.

The fact that more abundant and unemployed teachers  is becoming a headache for authority in central provinces of Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Ha Tinh and the northern province of Thanh Hoa and some Mekong delta provinces.

The competition between universities has led to low training quality, degraded the sector’s fame and caused waste for the society. Moreover, negative acts will worsen the situation with non-transparent recruitment procedures; thus good graduates will be discouraged.

The consequences therefore are very huge.

Experts said that to solve the sector’s problem, schools must test training quality of each teacher and move unskilled teachers to other works and receive good teachers in replacement.
