VietNamNet Bridge – Hanoi and HCM City began to granting five-digit licensce numbers for vehicles as of December 6.

Some provinces and cities like An Giang, Bac Giang, Dak Lak, Lang Son, Nam Dinh, Ninh Thuan and Vinh Long will still grant four-digit licensce number by the end of the first quarter 2011.

In Hanoi and HCM City, many people who bought new vehicles in November waited until December 6 to register their vehicles with five-digit licensce numbers.

Tuan from Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, said: “I bought my car two weeks ago but I haven’t registered it until now and I’m very satisfied with mythe licensce number starting by 000”.

Senior Lieutenant-colonel Dinh Van Hoa from the Hanoi Transport Police Bureau said that Hanoi granted five-digit licensce numbers to 200 cars and 100 motorbikes on December 6.

Hanoi will continue granting four-digit licensce numbers for motorbikes in addition to five-digit licensce numbers.

The situation was similar in HCM City. The city granted around 2,080 licensce numbers on December 6, including nearly 1,900 numbers to motorbikes.
