Third prize winner, b&w photo of a silversmith in the guild street of Hàng Bạc, taken by Hồ Sĩ Trung.

The 150 photos shown were chosen from entries submitted for an annual contest, called Hà Nội Streets, launched by the Hà Nội Association of Photographic Artists.

This year’s contest, the 47th edition, attracted the largest number of participants to date, the board said.

The photos capture many facets of the diversity of life found in Hà Nội, covering urban and rural landscapes, historical relics and architectural works, traditional customs and other cultural aspects of life.

The photo by Nguyễn Xuân Lộc showing residents of all ages having fun won first prize in an annual photography contest.

“Hà Nội is a very familiar theme for photo exhibitions and contests. So it becomes difficult for the photographers, requiring them to observe carefully and wait for the right moments to take photos,” said Đặng Đình An, chairman of the association.

First prize in the contest was won by Nguyễn Xuân Lộc, for a photo showing the joy of people taking part in múa sạp (bamboo dance in which dancers hop in between bamboo sticks being clapped in a rhythm by four to six people.)

The photos will be displayed at the Exhibition House, 45 Tràng Tiền Street, Hà Nội, until October 11.
