VietNamNet Bridge - After a visit to the ancient pottery village of Bat Trang outside Hanoi, Tomizawa Mamoru became an artisan and a pottery-making instructor for Vietnamese and foreign tourists in HCM City.
|
Tomizawa previously worked for a transportation service firm in Kobe, Japan. During his visit to Bat Trang Village, he made some pottery products and began to have a passion for the trade. He was determined to learn the trade and opened a pottery-making enterprise and a pottery-making class named Overland Club on Huynh Khuong Ninh Road, Dakao Ward, District 1, HCM City.
The class has many students of different nationalities.
Ms. Estella Wang is a senior student in the class. Wang said initially she learned making pottery to relieve stress, but now she has become an active member of the Overland Club.
She has also passed that love to her husband. Every week, they go to the class to learn new techniques and perfect what they have learnt.
Pottery-making requires patience and dexterity.
With the patience of a Japanese, Tomizawa inspires his class members because of his passion for his work.
Ms. Soo Kyung Lee from Taiwan is very interested in the trade. She has completed the first course and is attending the next course in order to create more complex products.
Enameling is a very important step. There are many enameling methods and the easiest method is to dip products into the enamel.
After the enameling step, products are burnt twice at a temperature up to 1000°C. The Overland Club uses gas furnaces that are environmentally friendly and can make high-quality products.
Through this class, Tomizawa wishes to connect Asia and Europe.
