The visit is made at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu
Trong and President Truong Tan Sang.
This is the first trip to Vietnam made by the highest-ranking Chinese Party
and State leader in nine years. It is significant to Vietnam-China relations
and Vietnam’s external relations.

At the talks with Party
Chief Nguyen Phu Trong, Mr. Xi promised that China would grant 1
billion yuan of aid to Vietnam in five years to build public
works like schools and hospitals and a preferential loan of $250
million for the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban rail project in Hanoi. The two leaders also witnessed the signing of some bilateral cooperation agreements. |
Through the visit, Vietnam aims to continue to confirm its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism and diversification, as well as its determination to develop its ties with China on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefits and equality. It will also protect its legitimate interests in the East Sea on the basis of international law and work with China to control disputes, and maintain peace and stability in the sea.
This year the countries have organised activities to celebrate the 65th
anniversary of diplomatic ties. Connections between their ministries,
sectors and localities have been strengthened, while people-to-people
exchanges have been held regularly.
The bilateral economic, trade and investment relations have also grown
significantly. Trade reached 49 billion USD in the first nine months of
2015, a year-on-year rise of 16 percent. Of this, 12.4 billion USD came from
Vietnam’s exports.
Total investment of over 8.4 billion USD in 1,180 projects made China the
ninth largest foreign investor in Vietnam at the end of last year.
China remained the country to send the most tourists to Vietnam, with 12.6
million visiting between January and September.
State welcome ceremony accorded to Chinese Party chief
A 21-gun salute was accorded to Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his spouse in front of the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on November 5.
The ceremony, the highest ritual for a Head of State, was chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his spouse.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping later inspected guards of honour and their parade.
Hanoi children waved flags and flowers welcoming the Chinese leader, his spouse and entourage.
Following the welcome ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping at the headquarters of the Party Central Committee.

President Xi Jinping’s visit marks milestone in VN-China relations The two-day State visit to Vietnam by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping marks a milestone in the relations between the two countries, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong told Beijing Radio on the threshold of the visit, which begins on November 5. The ambassador said both countries attach great importance to this visit which aims to increase mutual trust and win-win cooperation as well as settle existing issues between the two countries in a satisfactory manner to make pragmatic contributions to the stable and healthy development of China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. He noted that during the visit to Vietnam by Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli last July, leaders of the two countries reached important consensus on better tapping their potential and expanding cooperation based on their common perception. According to Hong, several agreements to be signed during President Xin Jinping’s visit will lay a firm foundation for the bilateral exchanges in the coming time. The Chinese People’s Daily – the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China on November 3 carried an article by Ambassador Hong Xiaoyong highlighting trust building exchange and win-win cooperation as the shared viewpoint of the two countries. The article said few countries share that many similarities with China as Vietnam, and unceasingly promoting exchanges to build mutual trust and enhance win-win cooperation will benefit both peoples. The ambassador noted in the article that China has been the largest trade partner of Vietnam for 11 consecutive years with over 1,000 Chinese businesses running investment in Vietnam. In the first nine months of this year, nearly 1.3 million Chinese tourists came to Vietnam, making up nearly one quarter of the total international tourists to the Southeast Asian country. According to the Chinese Ambassador, there remain some disagreements and disputes between the two countries; however, both are aware that the mutual interests are bigger than any disputes and will spare no efforts to maintain the overall relations. |
