VietNamNet Bridge – A photo exhibition capturing the steadfast solidarity and comprehensive co-operation that Viet Nam and Laos have enjoyed over the last 50 years opened yesterday, July 17, at the HCM City Youth Cultural House.

Youth Union members yesterday visit the photo exhibition celebrating 50 years of bilateral relations between Viet Nam and Laos.

The exhibition was opened by former President Nguyen Minh Triet and Deputy PM Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos.

The two countries established formal diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962.

The exhibition also celebrates 2012 as the Year of Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity, the 35th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Co-operation Treaty (July 18, 1977) as well as the ties between HCM City, Vientiane and Champasak.

Organised by the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the city's Department of Foreign Affairs, the exhibition has 190 photographs showcasing strong bonds forged by both nations during the wars they fought against the French and the US for national independence.

They also reflect the traditional frienship enjoyed by the two neighbouring nations and the co-operative ties between HCM City and the Lao cities of Vientiane and Champasak.

Several photographs in the exhibition show Laos as a very beautiful country with friendly and hospitable people.
The exhibition will be open to the public until July 23.
